Title: Assistant Professor of Marketing
Department: Marketing, College of Business
Application Deadline: For full consideration June 2, 2008

Department and College
The Department of Marketing is a very collegial and supportive group that currently has nine tenure-track faculty members, and serves approximately 2,000 undergraduate students and 500 MBA students. The MBA is offered at the Fort Collins main campus, as well as in Denver as an executive program, and via Colorado State University’s accredited distance learning program. Colorado State University is a Carnegie Research Extensive Institution with a land grant mission serving approximately 25,000 graduate and undergraduate students. Colorado State University is committed to building and maintaining a high quality faculty that reflects the diversity of the populations that we serve. We encourage candidates who share that commitment to apply.

Community
Fort Collins is a beautiful city of 130,000 located 60 miles north of Denver. Fort Collins offers easy access to many forms of outdoor recreation and maintains an excellent public school system. The city’s ideal climate and outstanding quality of life have attracted a wide variety of manufacturing and technology-related firms. In 2006, Money Magazine ranked Fort Collins #1 in its “Best Places to Live” list based on its ability to “offer big-city opportunities and amenities -- with a lot more green space and a lot less stress.” http://welcome.colostate.edu/index.asp?url=main_feature_moneymag06

Primary Duties
The workload portfolio for Assistant Professors in the Marketing Department is 50 percent teaching, 40 percent research, and 10 percent service and outreach.

Teaching: The typical teaching load is four courses per year, some of which could be graduate classes and some undergraduate classes. Typically, teaching assignments are on campus in Fort Collins; however, there may be opportunities for teaching at the Denver campus. Assistant Professors are responsible for engaging students in an active learning process; preparing and delivering class presentations and discussions; and evaluating students and assigning grades. They are also responsible for staying abreast of the latest developments in the areas in which they teach. Assistant Professors may serve on graduate and honors student committees.

Research: Assistant Professors are expected to conduct research and disseminate their findings in academic journals, at academic/professional conferences, and in other appropriate outlets such as books and monographs. Research should be published in high quality and prestigious journals. Appropriate outlets for published research are identified in the Departmental Workload Portfolio Policy and in consultation with the Department Chair and the Departmental Tenure and Promotion Committee. Current faculty members have published in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, and Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, among others. Based on the citation frequency of articles published in the top three marketing journals, the department was ranked in the top 20 marketing departments with 5 or more faculty. Furthermore, in the past six years, the department has generated over $6 million in research grants.

Service and Outreach: Service to the University, the community, and the profession are important activities for an Assistant Professor, but less so than for tenured faculty members. Service on College and University committees dealing with academic issues and administrative matters is commonplace for faculty at this rank. Participation in professional organizations is expected, and faculty often share their professional expertise through outreach activities with business and non-profit organizations.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Assistant Professors are expected to be content experts in one or more areas of marketing, and should be willing and able to serve as an information resource for multiple constituents, including students, faculty, and the business community. A Ph.D.in Marketing or a related field at the time of appointment is expected. We seek candidates who show strong promise for publishing in the top marketing journals and for teaching effectively in undergraduate and graduate courses. The ability to teach International Marketing is preferred for one of the positions.

Workplace Relationships: All faculty are expected to work for the common good of the Department, the College, and the University. Teamwork is critical for success on the job, and faculty must be able to maintain relationships with students, co-workers, and other constituents that are based on professionalism and mutual respect. Assistant Professors report directly to the Department Chair, who will formally evaluate their performance on an annual basis. In addition, the Departmental Tenure and Promotion Committee will assess Assistant Professors’ progress toward tenure and promotion on an annual basis.

Application Process
For full consideration, applications should be received no later than June 2, 2008; however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. We will conduct interviews at the Summer AMA Educators’ Conference in San Diego. Applications must be submitted electronically and must include: a) a letter of application from the candidate, b) a vita, and c) contact information for a total of three references. Once the search committee has identified semifinalists the department faculty will have access to the files, including letters of recommendation. The selected candidates are expected to start August 16, 2009. Please send application to:
