Undergraduate and Graduate Programs

 

The accounting profession offers almost unlimited opportunities in the world of business, because accounting is the language of business.  At the Department of Accounting, we offer a placement record of close to 100 percent for our students. Our graduates work in public accounting, industry, non-profits, and government agencies where they focus on financial reporting, auditing, management accounting, taxation and consulting.


The accounting profession is undergoing a period of change as economic globalization brings new standards to our venerable profession.  Rules and regulations governing business accounting practices are being brought into accordance with international financial reporting standards. Of course, we are already bringing these standards into our curriculum so you will be well prepared for the future of accounting today.

 
Undergraduate Program
The College of Business offers a single undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. The accounting curriculum within the business administration degree satisfies the educational background required for you to sit for the Colorado Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Financial Accountant (CFA) examinations.


Within the undergraduate program at the College of Business, you will take a core curriculum as well as be able to design your program with area-of-interest certificates to take you a step further toward your career goals. Certificates that work well with the accounting concentration include, but are not limited to, financial analysis, international business, and information technology. Our faculty members place among the best at Colorado State University in teacher ratings, and are regularly published in professional journals. Our Accounting Advisory Board keeps our curriculum fresh and relevant, and our student club, Beta Alpha Psi, keeps you active and involved.


Master of Accountancy
While an undergraduate degree in with an accounting concentration at Colorado State University can fulfill current requirements to sit for the CPA examination in Colorado, most states require 150 hours of education. The Master of Accountancy program prepares you to become a Certified Public Accountant, able to practice in all 50 states. You may select concentrations in either tax or audit. The program’s unique blend of courses provides a wealth of practical job-related knowledge as well as the topic coverage needed to successfully sit for the national Uniform CPA Examination.
