Description:

Information and communication technologies (ICT) play significant roles in the support of collaborative processes that are distributed across place and/or time. New business models, increased access to technology, and availability of wide range of collaboration technologies offer a new set of opportunities for intra- and inter-organizational collaboration, especially in knowledge sharing and decision making in global organizations. Each collaboration technology offers a specific set of functionalities. Effective utilization of the functionalities of collaborative technologies in distributed processes is a complex, yet an intellectually rewarding area of information systems (IS) research

Possible topics for the mini-track include, but are not limited to:

  • theoretical foundations for collaborative systems and distributed processes
  • innovative use of technology for distributed collaborative processes, especially in intelligence gathering, decision and judgment tasks
  • technological solutions for collaborative process design,- synchronous vs. asynchronous
  • barriers to collaborative systems adoption and usage
  • scalable collaboration systems to support large and multi-organizational teams
  • business process improvement with collaborative systems
  • collaborative technology supported distributed and virtual teams
  • information and knowledge sharing in distributed and virtual teams
  • deindividuation effects in collaborative technology supported distributed and virtual teams
  • effects of temporal separation and media effectiveness (e.g. social presence, communication effectiveness) on distributed and virtual teams
  • effects of team diversity (arising from differences in national culture, organizational culture, and functional expertise) on distributed and virtual teams
  • conflict and conflict resolution in distributed and virtual teams
  • trust, cohesiveness, and openness in distributed and virtual teams
  • leadership and process control mechanisms in distributed and virtual teams
