Course Descriptions 


Listed below are all the courses that have to be taken in the master of science in computer information systems program. Note, the student has the option of choosing between the Plan A (Thesis) or Plan B (Project) in order to complete the degree.


CIS 600  – Information Technology and Project Management (3 Credits – Fall, Summer)
Prerequisite: Admission to M.S. program
Strategic role and management of information technology and software development projects.

 

CIS 601/MGT 601 – Enterprise Computing and System Integration (3 Credits – Fall)
Prerequisite: Admission to M.S. program. Credit not allowed for both CIS 601 and MGT 601
Intergraded extended enterprise planning and execution systems concepts including ERP, CRM, SCM, MRPII, business processes, front/back office systems.

 

CIS 605 – Business Visual Application Development (3 Credits – Fall)
Prerequisite: Admission to M.S. program
Design, construction, and testing of business application systems including leading-edge visual, E-commerce languages and tools.

 

CIS 606 – Application Software Infrastructure (3 Credits – Fall)
Design construction, and testing of business application software infrastructure including hardware, operating software, and communications network.

 

CIS 610 – Software Development Methodology (3 Credits – Fall)
Prerequisite: Admission to M.S. program
Methods for all phases of software development focusing upon the establishment of economical software that is reliable and cross platform.

CIS 611 – Object-Oriented Systems (3 Credits – Spring)
Prerequisite: CIS 610
Object-oriented and web-based software; object model describing classes; relationship to other objects, attributes, and operations.

 

CIS 620   IT Communications Infrastructure (3 Credits – Spring)
Prerequisite: CIS 606
Technical aspects of information communications, business considerations; wireless technology, architecture, and applications.

 

CIS 655   – Business Database Systems (3 Credits – Spring)
Prerequisite: CIS 606
Database analysis design, administration; date modeling; data sublanguages, query facilities; distributed database systems.

 

CIS 665 – E-Business Application Technologies (3 Credits – Spring)
Prerequisite: CIS 605; CIS 606; CIS 610
Developing E-business (B2B and B2C) through construction and deployment.

 

CIS 695 Var. Independent Study/CIS 696 Var. Group Study (Plan B )
Application of concepts, techniques, and tools used in analysis, design, and implementation of computer-based information systems in applied setting.

CIS 699 Var. Thesis (Plan A)

Traditional research project using the scientific method of inquiry.
