Mr. Larry Miller
Network Administrator/DBA
A native of the Midwest, Larry grew up in the Chicago area along the
shores of Lake Michigan and still occasionally misses the majesty and
recreational opportunities of the Great Lakes. Well acquainted with an
academic environment, Larry earned degrees in Biology and Environmental
Sciences from Northwestern University where his father served as a
professor for over twenty years.
Larry discovered the beauty of Colorado and the Rocky Mountains after
numerous family vacations to the YMCA Camp in Estes Park, and decided to
permanently relocate to the Front Range in the early 1980's. In Fort
Collins he worked as an Immunologist/Biochemist for six years in the
research group of a biotechnology company involved in the manufacture of
vaccines and diagnostics for the veterinary industry. It was here that
Larry got his first practical computer experience in collecting and
analyzing test data from various laboratory instruments. This was also
his first exposure to several dangerous viruses.
When the company decided to consolidate operations back to Omaha, Larry
remained in the area and returned to school at CSU to complete a Masters
Degree in Computer Information Systems and has been with the College
ever since. Keeping abreast of the explosion in computing and networking
technology over the years has been the primary fascination for Larry
while working in the College. The early struggles of setting up basic
LAN connections has evolved to the challenge of safely and securely
accessing the vast array of computing resources which are now available.
The viruses are different but just as nasty.
Larry enjoys fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, and just about anything
else the mountains have to offer. When not at home with his wife
Christine and two very peculiar cats, he can often be spotted piloting
his "hippie van" around town or in the nearby National Forest. |
