Mission Statement: The
Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department within the College of
Business at Colorado State University specializes in providing a
state-of-the-art, highly marketable systems education. The program
offers a balance between technical and managerial issues through a
strong emphasis on business applications. The curriculum provides
students with a broad understanding of business, a competence in
business computer programming, a knowledge of information technology
infrastructure, and a sound foundation in systems analysis and design.
The CIS program at CSU benefits from close industry relationships,
offers excellent facilities, and has a strong tradition, being one of
the oldest CIS/MIS programs in the country.
History: The Department, which began in 1964, was one of the first in
the nation. It was first known as the "Management Science and
Information Systems" department. The name was changed to CIS in 1982 to
reflect the changing understanding of information technology in the
business community.
The CIS student placement rates at CSU have been very high over the
years. Our customers are the businesses and industry into which our
students enter, and we have always worked to respond to their developing
needs. The curriculum has maintained a strong customer focus and the
future of the discipline continues to be bright. Excellent career
opportunities exist for students in the expanding field of Information
Technology including programming, systems analysis and design, personal
networking, networking, and systems integration. Managing these
technologies to help solve business problems provides students
concentrating in information systems with a wide variety of career
opportunities.
