Sanjay Ramchander was selected as the “Research Fellow” for the year 2008-09 at the 36th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Economics & Finance (AEF). The official recognition ceremony will be held at the Academy’s meeting in 2010. One research fellow is selected each year by the Academy from a competitive pool of researchers from various Universities.
Ramchander’s nomination letter noted that an overview of his scholarship activities would indicate research interests that are eclectic and span several different areas in finance and economics. His research, which is broadly at the nexus of financial markets and macroeconomic performance, has examined issues relating to budget and trade deficits, capital market linkages, exchange rate determination, options markets, emerging markets macrostructure, monetary policy effects, real estate market efficiency, corporate capital structure, and tests of asset pricing theories. Currently, he is studying the strategic implications from environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) activities.
Some of his research accomplishments include:
- Prolific researcher having published over 35 papers in journals such as Economics Letters, Financial Review, Indian Economic Journal, Journal of Asian Economics, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Futures Markets, Journal of International Money and Finance, and Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics.
- Received best paper award in AEF meetings four times – 2 for economics (1999 and 2005); 2 for finance (2001 and 2003).
- Received best paper award in the American Real Estate Society conference (2008).
- Awarded Charles and Gwen Lillis Faculty Research Fellow at Colorado State University.
- Received faculty research and teaching excellence awards at Minnesota State University and Colorado State University.
- Awarded several competitive research grants.
