Business and Engineering Students Presented at Northern Colorado Entrepreneurs Meetup

01/26/2009

Five student teams from Colorado State University presented their new ventures on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Northern Colorado Entrepreneurs Meetup. More than 80 local professionals, entrepreneurs, and students are expected to attend, listen to the business plans, and help students put their ideas into action. The event was held at The Neenan Company's headquarters in Fort Collins. This month's Northern Colorado Entrepreneurs Meetup will be devoted entirely to Colorado State students.

Four of the teams developed the plans in their undergraduate business planning class and were selected for the meetup by a panel of judges from the business community. They are pursuing their ventures as part of the College of Business'' Entrepreneurship Certificate program. The fifth project comes from an mechanical engineering student in the Structural Engineering program. More complete project description can be found below.

The plans include:

JuniorBiz.com – an online site for student entrepreneurs.
Roundfoot Homes – a design for unique, affordable, energy efficient homes.
Frontline Tools – a design firm that creates tools for niche industries such as wild land firefighting.
The Box House – a prepared organic food delivery service located in downtown Denver.
Vibrant Living – a new model of assisted living homes.

Enhancing the regional entrepreneurial community

The presentations are part of emerging cooperation between the Northern Colorado Entrepreneurs Network and the Colorado State University College of Business, Entrepreneurship Center, and College of Engineering. The Northern Colorado Entrepreneurs Meetup is designed to enhance the regional entrepreneurial community through networking and mentoring programs.

The Center for Entrepreneurship at Colorado State develops programs and offers curriculum to help student entrepreneurs learn about the process of new venture creation. The College of Business Entrepreneurship Center will also host Venture Adventure, a national student business plan competition, in April. Special thanks to the Neenan Company for hosting the event.

JuniorBiz.com
Teach and help young people turn their freelance work into legitimate businesses through a fun, safe and easily accessible online environment. We will sell how-to guides with ideas and instructions for product and service-based businesses.

Mark Benjamin: Roundfoot Homes
A design for unique, affordable, energy efficient homes people can build themselves, or with basic help.

Frontline Tools
Design firm that creates tools for niche industries, considered too small for larger tool companies to handle. Current project is the "Sawyer Multi-Tool", which includes many of the tools needed to perform the chainsaw duties and maintenance of a wildland firefighter chainsaw operator.

The Box House
We, as a group, have found a niche in downtown Denver that is unfulfilled. We want to prepare healthy, organic breakfast and lunch and have it available via our on-line ordering system, for customers at the convenience of their desk.

Vibrant Living
A new model of assisted living homes, raising the quality of life for the elderly who need assistance with their activities of daily living.
