Thank you for your interest in CSU’s Marketing Internship program for credit.
MKT 487 is an elective course. We do not require that our students complete an internship to graduate. However, our policy is that a student can receive credit for an internship for one semester one time. Currently we have about 15 students per semester seeking MKT 487 credit and approximately 30 to 40 organizations seeking marketing interns (whether it’s for credit or not).
To qualify for participation in this for credit internship program students must be marketing majors and receive written permission from the Department of Marketing Internship Coordinator to register. Many of our participants have completed 2-3 marketing courses.
Since academic credit is involved, there is a process for approving internship opportunities for credit. The Department of Marketing Internship Coordinator reviews all opportunities to determine if they meet department requirements for credit. The best way to submit your internship opportunity for review is to send an “Internship Opportunity” announcement as a Word attachment to an email. Please provide:
1. a detailed description of your organization,
2. goals and objectives the intern will accomplish during the semester internship,
3. the qualifications you are seeking in an intern,
4. the marketing tasks students will be asked to perform,
5. if the internship is paid and if so, how much,
6. who will supervise and mentor the student including job title,
7. the value this position offers to the students, and
8. your application process and how you want interested students to contact you.
We are always looking for great learning internship opportunities for our students. Once the opportunity has been reviewed, you will be notified if it can be offered for credit.
Students earn either 3 marketing elective credits or 3 upper level free-elective credit hours for MKT 487. Interns must complete a minimum of 150 hours of supervised internship during the semester they are enrolled in this program.
Compensation is strictly up to the employer. Some students are willing to take MKT 487 for credit only. However, over half of the employers offer paid positions averaging $10.00 per hour or offer a stipend.
