By Doug Hoffman with the help of Demetri Martin and apologies to Jim Tressel
Given that it is the end of the semester, I hope that you can forgive the nonacademic nature of this particular teaching tip. As you may remember, a couple of years ago I asked students to comment on how faculty disrupt the classroom—“wearing a sweater vest” actually made the list.
It seems like the sweater vest just can’t catch a break. I was driving home from school a couple of weeks ago and heard a comedian on the radio talking about sweater vests. It went something like this…(picture a young comedian, Demetri Martin, at a comedy club, wearing a sweater vest)
“I have a theory about vests…
Vests are for protection.
For example…
A bullet proof vest…protects me from getting shot.
A life vest…protects me from drowning.
And, my sweater vest…well, it protects me from pretty girls.”
Have a great summer (MTI is signing off for the summer)!
