The Executive MBA students spent ten very busy and productive days
traveling through Korea and Japan early this summer l ed by Associate
Dean for Graduate Programs John Hoxmeier, Denver Executive Program
Director Jim McCambridge and Management Professor, John Grant. The
tour included corporate discussions, factory tours, and cultural
presentations. Companies visited by the group include Samsung
Economic Research, HP-Korea, Yuhan-Kim (Kimberly Clark), Korean
Water Resources Corporation, Korean Higher Ed (ASSIST, Seoul
National University, Konkuk University), ASO-Group (ASO Cement, ASO
Hospital, ASO Corporate), Toyota, Sony, and HP-Japan.
The tour and class integration was facilitated by Dr. John Grant as
part of the BG662 Global Enterprise course. The students prepared
for the trip by integrating these organizations into the DEMBA
curriculum. Prior to departure, students studied Asian cultural
impacts on leadership, reviewed the Toyota Production System and
were involved with a technical and market assessment of the new high
definition DVD formats being proposed by Sony and HP. In Korea, the
group toured a Korean environmental recovery project managed by
Kowaco, which employs many CSU-educated engineers. While in Japan,
the CFO of HP-Japan presented a lecture on Japan/US management
practices and cultural differences from the Japanese perspective.
While it was an ambitious schedule, the tour was highly successful.
CSU renewed many acquaintances and made many new friends.
Upon their return, the College of Business hosted a reciprocal visit
from the AsoJuku (community college) in Fukuoka where they explored
our highly regarded distance learning program and practices, as well
as the innovations underway with on-line delivery of coursework.
Visit included Gene Lewis' lab, Dennis Middlemist and Ted Conti, DCE,
as well as distant learning program personnel at Front Range
Community College. |
