FORT COLLINS
When:
Saturday, Nov. 6 - 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Where:
University Park Holiday Inn in Fort Collins, located on Prospect,
west of College Ave.
Who:
Colorado State University is hosting the regional "Duel in the
Rockies Personal Financial Case Study Competition" where teams from
Colorado State, University of Northern Colorado, University of
Colorado-Colorado Springs, University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
University of Kansas and Rocky Mountain College will compete for
$9,000 in cash prizes as they research and develop a solution for
hypothetical case studies about a family in financial distress.
Why:
The competition was designed to address the need for increased
financial literacy among college students. Due to credit card debt
growing to monstrous $2 trillion and escalating bankruptcies,
students are able to enhance their awareness of money management
through this case study analysis.
Details:
In 36 hours, competitors must research the hypothetical situations
and design a reasonable, workable and creative solution to the
dilemma, based on the family's situation, economics, geography and
resources. The teams will present their results to panels of expert
judges who decide the team who has best resolved the family's
finances.
Winners will advance to a national competition in Tucson on March
10-13, 2005. The competition will by hosted by the University of
Arizona Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and sponsored by Take
Charge America, a non-profit national credit counseling company
based in Phoenix.
