Tom Ingram, professor of marketing in the College of Business,
received the Distinguished Sales Educator Award from the University
Sales Center Alliance at the recent National Conference in Sales
Management in Dallas.
The award recognizes exceptional sales and marketing educators for
their long-term contributions to the quality and advancement of
sales and sales management education. The Alliance is a consortium
of sales centers located at universities throughout the United
States whose goal is to advance the sales discipline.
“I argue that there is no one individual in the field of marketing
with a reputation for higher integrity, humility, and fairness than
Tom Ingram,” said Ajay Menon, dean of the College of Business.
“Despite his many accomplishments, Tom always finds time to help and
guide those less accomplished or early in their careers. He is
not flashy nor does he carry success on his sleeve – thus allowing
those early in their career the ease of reaching out to him and
seeking his guidance.”
An author of many sales and marketing textbooks and a professor,
Ingram has mentored College of Business students about the
profession since 1995. His contributions to the profession have been
recognized by the Mu Kappa Tau National Marketing Honor Society, and
in 1990, he was named Marketing Educator of the Year by the Sales
and Marketing Executives International.
Ingram is the co-author of one of the “10 Most Influential Articles
of the 20th Century” as determined by the Sales and Sales Management
Special Interest Group of the American Marketing Association. In his
career, Ingram has written more than 60 journal articles and several
marketing textbooks.
Ingram has advanced the profession as an editor for two
international journals and has served on the Board of Directors for
Sales and Marketing Executives International.
