College NewsCollege sets food drive record

Donated food being loaded into a truck“Feed the People” was the message on a sign asking students to participate in the Cans around the Oval food drive. The Business College Council (BCC) spearheaded the student food drive and initiated a spirited competition with the faculty and staff to see who could collect the most groceries.

While faculty contributions outweighed the students’, the students’ enthusiasm was immeasurable. BCC members were responsible for signage throughout the College and for the sale of coffee and donuts for cans of food.

Ernie MacQuiddy again coordinated the Cans around the Oval effort for the College of Business. For those who are not familiar with the coordinator’s job, it includes everything from distributing boxes and inspiring contributions to renting and loading trucks.

The 14,818 pounds of food contributed by the College faculty, staff and students set a new record for the most food contributed by an individual school within the University.  Current tallies show that more than 102,000 pounds of food were contributed to this year’s Cans around the Oval. Only the Campus Recreation and Lory Student Centers collected more food than the College of Business.

Thanks to all who worked so hard to make this effort a success. Special thanks, too, to Margarita Lenk and her class who helped with the loading of the truck.
