Information Technology Certificate
Information technology (IT) pervades every aspect of business, and employers often seek out graduates who can effectively use IT in their area of concentration. The IT for Business Professionals Certificate is designed to give students an edge in the job market by complementing their concentration with knowledge and skills for evaluating, designing and using software systems to solve business problems and improve decision making.
The knowledge and skills acquired in the certificate depend on the courses you choose. The certificate can be tailored to your concentration and level of interest in technology, as described below.
Core material of the Technology and E-Business Certificate includes:
- Technology fundamentals
- Building and using databases to solve business problems
- Planning and managing IT projects
- Understanding enterprise systems and how they support business processes
- Experience with software tools such as Microsoft Access, Structured Query Language (SQL), and Visual Basic .NET.

Required:
CIS 210 Information Technology in Business
Plus Two:
CIS 240 Application Design and Development
CIS 320 Project Management for Information Systems
CIS 355 Business Database Systems
CIS 411 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems.
The following course sequences are suggested:
- For Accounting and Finance students: CIS 210, CIS 355, and either CIS 320 or CIS 411.
- For Marketing students: CIS 210, CIS 355, and CIS 411.
- For Management students: CIS 210, CIS 320, and either CSI 355 or CIS 411.
- For students with a special interest in application development: CIS 210, CIS 240, and CIS 355.
Note: This certificate is not offered to CIS majors.
